Reaction Rates for 146Sm Production in Supernovae

چکیده
Correlations of the 142 Nd/ 144 Nd ratio with the Sm/Nd ratio in some meteorites have been previously explained by the-decay of long-lived 146 Sm. In order to account for these observations, a necessary production ratio for 146 Sm/ 144 Sm in the-process of 0.1{0.7 was deduced. The ratio (148 Gd(,n) 147 Gd)/(148 Gd(,) 144 Sm), which plays the dominant role in the production of 146 Sm/ 144 Sm, has been re-determined in the present paper by improved statistical model calculations. Utilization of folding potentials for current address 1 the-channel reduce the (,) rate by a factor of 3, which would enhance the production ratios, previously predicted at the lower limit of the allowed range 0.1{0.7. However, additional improvements in the treatment of nuclear level densities also reduce the (,n) rate by a factor of 0.4. Thus, in total the new cross section calculations result, at best, only in a modestly enhanced production ratio of 146 Sm/ 144 Sm.

Solution of the α-potential mystery in the γ process and its impact on the Nd/Sm ratio in meteorites.
The 146Sm/144Sm ratio in the early solar system has been constrained by Nd/Sm isotope ratios in meteoritic material. Predictions of 146Sm and 144Sm production in the γ process in massive stars are at odds with these constraints, and this is partly due to deficiencies in the prediction of the reaction rates involved. The production ratio depends almost exclusively on the (γ,n)/(γ,α) branching at...

The presence of the p-process nucleus 146Sm (mean life, r = 149 x 106 yr) in the early solar system and its in situ IX-decay into 142Nd is demonstrated by the correlation of 142Ndjl44Nd with 144Smjl44Nd in two meteorites which have a large range in 144Sm/144Nd in their constituent mineral phases. Clear excesses of 142Nd/ 144Nd, relative to the solar system value, are present in high Sm/Nd phase...
متن کاملEffective helium burning rates and the production of the neutrino nuclei.
Effective values for the key helium burning reaction rates, triple-α and (12)C(α, γ)(16)O, are obtained by adjusting their strengths so as to obtain the best match with the solar abundance pattern of isotopes uniquely or predominately made in core-collapse supernovae. These effective rates are then used to determine the production of the neutrino isotopes. The use of effective rates considerabl...
متن کاملIn Core-collapse Supernovae: Sensitivity to the Rates of the Triple Alpha and C(α, Γ)o Reactions
We have studied the sensitivity to variations in the the triple alpha and C(α, γ)O reaction rates of the production of Al, Ti, and Fe in core-collapse supernovae. We used the KEPLER code to model the evolution of 15M⊙, 20M⊙, and 25M⊙ stars to the onset of core collapse and simulated the ensuing supernova explosion using a piston model for the explosion. Calculations were performed for the Ander...

The abundances of (92)Nb and (146)Sm in the early solar system are determined from meteoritic analysis, and their stellar production is attributed to the p process. We investigate if their origin from thermonuclear supernovae deriving from the explosion of white dwarfs with mass above the Chandrasekhar limit is in agreement with the abundance of (53)Mn, another radionuclide present in the early...
